Equipping Leaders To Multiply

Do You Have a Testimony?

Why is your staff not developing leaders?

It could be a lack of skill or know-how. It could be pride or laziness.

Regardless of what the cause seems to be, the root of the problem is a lack of conviction.

Conviction leads to action. If a staff member has a conviction that leadership development works, they will do it. But if they lack the conviction, they will not take action to develop others. This is why believers share their faith; they have a testimony of how Jesus changed their life.

How do you get the conviction for leadership development? Two ways.

  1. You start developing leaders and see that it works
  2. You ask someone to develop you and see the benefits of being developed.

I have a pastor friend who calls it the “Testimony Factor”: If you have a testimony of change, you will have a conviction.

What next steps do you need to take to deepen your conviction for developing leaders?

If you need a tool to get you started, try the Leading Others training book. Get two people you would like to develop. Give them a copy and spend the next two or three months walking them through it session by session.

After taking them through, you will see the difference it made in their leadership, and it will give you the conviction that spending time developing leaders is worth it.
